Mike Pohl won the most votes out of five candidates in the May 2021 Republican Primary to secure one of four nominations for Fox Chapel Borough Council this year. Pohl will be one of five candidates running for the four seats on Fox Chapel Borough Council in the upcoming November 2, 2021, General Election. Mike is a lifelong resident of Fox Chapel Borough, graduating from Shady Side Academy in 2013 where he was elected to serve as the senior class President. He was the 2013 recipient of the President’s Prize at Shady Side and also awarded honored as the Rotary Club of Pittsburgh’s Student of Distinction in 2013. Mike was a varsity letterman in both football and track, and founded “The Flag Club” while in high school. Serving his community started at a young age for Mike. He has been active with the Fox Chapel Volunteer Fire Department since he was 16 years old and was recently appointed to Lieutenant. He also is the organization’s Secretary. Mike has more than 350 hours of training by county, state and federal authorities in fire suppression, rescue and emergency management. He was awarded the Fox Chapel VFD Firefighter of the Year in 2011. Mike will bring a unique and much needed perspective about public safety and emergency management to the Borough Council. In addition to the fire department, Mike continues to enjoy serving the community as a member of the Join Comprehensive Plan Committee comprised of residents from both Fox Chapel Borough and O’Hara Township. After graduating high school, Mike earned a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude in History from The University of Notre Dame. He went on to complete his Master of Science in Management from the Mendoza College of Business at Notre Dame in 2018. He was inducted into to Phi Alpha Theta national honor society in History. While at Notre Dame Mike also received the inaugural Carroll Hall Service Leadership Award and the Rex Rakow Award for leadership and community service. Mike is currently employed as Treasurer Manager of Payments and Operations for Dick’s Sporting Goods. He joined Dick’s Sporting Goods in 2018 as is part of the company’s Leadership Development Program. Mike is married to Maggie who is a Registered Nurse at UPMC St. Margaret’s. The couple have a dog, Dutch.
