MAGEE UNION NURSES STAND WITH OUR COMMUNITY TO WIN PAID LEAVE FOR ALL WORKING PARENTS R A R S UPMC NURSES STRONGER TOGETHER! PY OUR MOM DID IT EARNED IT! NURSE MARSHEY VER To Help Kids and Families Thrive! This Mother's Day, union nurses and advanced practitioners at Magee-Womens Hospital are standing with our community and elected leaders to support paid leave for all working parents. This policy solution is urgently needed to address the infant and maternal health crisis in both Allegheny County and our state. We are facing spiraling problems with women's and family health, which are compounded by deep racial and class disparities. Our county has even higher rates of preterm births, low birth weights and infant mortality than the state average, and severe maternal morbidity is skyrocketing. We've heard from over 1,000 community members through our recent survey, and two needs have clearly shown through: patients want more time with us nurses when they're in the hospital, and 85% have explicitly expressed the need for more paid time when they leave to care for their newborns and themselves. Clinical studies prove that paid leave reduces infant and maternal deaths, supports newborn-parent bonding, increases breastfeeding rates, and improves physical and mental health outcomes for new parents and children. Paid leave also increases recruitment and retention of employees, which is vital for addressing the nursing crisis at Magee and throughout our healthcare system. Working families are struggling with the rising cost of living, and shouldn't be worried about losing their paychecks or jobs in order to take care of their babies. For the health and economic security of every working mom and dad, we need paid parental leave NOW! Sign our petition at ParentalLeaveForAC.org MAGEE NURSES UNITED Pennsylvania SEIUHealthcare.
