The Flax Scutching Festival offers demonstrations of the complete process of making Linen from the Flax plant. The festival also has great homemade food, crafts, antique farm equipment, live music, civil war encampment, covered wagon train encampment and a staged Indian raid. The Indian raid is a realistic battle between Indians & Settlers, representing the hazards of the era.
The Flax Scutching Festival features descendants of Ligonier Valley pioneers recreating the art of making linen from the flax plant. Historic festival est. 1907. Watch how linen was made from the flax plant, homemade food: known for our buckwheat cakes (from original recipe), sausage and pure maple syrup, bakery items, soups, sandwiches and more; live bands, quality handmade crafts; re-enactor encampments, antique farm equipment, hayrides and petting zoo and the Indian Raid: a depiction of events that happened locally in the late 1700's.
