Gamma Alpha Tau Zeta April Press Release
Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Gamma Alpha Tau Zeta Chapter P.O. Box 10524 Penn Hills, PA 15235 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Spring has sprung and it is time for growth and renewal! Also, it is the time of year where goal-driven, talented, and barrier-breaking individuals set the tone for their futures. Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Gamma Alpha Tau Zeta Chapter, Penn Hills, PA, has experience when it comes to charting new paths and overcoming challenges. One of our Charter Members, Triumphant Soror LaTonya Frazier of Beaver Falls, never shied away from overcoming obstacles in her life, whether personally or socially. Soror Frazier demonstrated to our Chapter and the community what it truly meant to be an overcomer, by persevering and staying the course during difficult and trying circumstances. In honor of her life, we have instituted a scholarship fund in an effort to see her legacy live on through inspiring and awe-striking individuals. The Gamma Alpha Tau Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. located in Penn Hills, PA, proudly continues its tradition of upholding the principle of Scholarship by providing two $1000.00 awards to recipients whom we believe demonstrate what it takes to be an overcomer. The women of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Gamma Alpha Tau Zeta Chapter, would like to personally congratulate the 2024 winners of the LaTonya Frazier Overcomer Scholarship. Congratulations Alonna Morton and Demetrius Broadnax Jr! These individuals have shown that regardless of their circumstances, they can embody and accomplish whatever it takes to overcome. We applaud their efforts and we look forward to what the future holds for them. We would also like to thank all the 2024 applicants from Allegheny and surrounding counties for their entries. Your work also did not go unnoticed. We look forward to the applicants for the 2025 scholarship season. Applications will open in the early Spring of 2025, so be on the lookout for more! August Wilson Block Party 2024 -Participant Reaction
The August Wilson African American Cultural Center recently held their annual Block Party event on April 27, 2024. A family friendly affair where hundreds of community members gather for free to celebrate the birthday of August Wilson's birthday. Food, vendors, and activities the entire family can enjoy. This year was particularly special because unlike block parties before, this year it didn't rain. This increased the attendance rate. The Trib took a moment to hear from a few community members that attended. Shelley Stone (Hill District) said, "I attend the August Wilson Block Party annually. Rain or shine, but this year was special because it was beautiful to see neighbors and more come out to enjoy beautiful weather, festivities, and good eats." "My favorite thing about the August Wilson Block Party is the resources. The amount of knowledge, education, and resources that are available is mind blowing. I don't think people know about most of them. I take the time to mingle and network and share the information with my tribe," Cecily Livingston (Homewood). "The weather is beautiful! We couldn't of asked for better weather. Me and kids are having so much fun. I'm happy we were able to attend," Susan King (Hill District). "People always say there isn't much to do in our communities. This Block Party needs to be added to their calendar. The Block Party is a vibe, rain or shine," Gwendolyn Sincere (Hill District).
