Woodland Hills High School Honors Fallen Wolverines During Graduation Ceremony
Congratulations to the illustrious class of Woodland Hills High School Class of 2024. While walking across the stage to attain your High School diploma is a huge moment in the lives of our young people, it can be a day overwhelmed by an array of emotions. Woodland Hills students and staff made it a point to honor fallen Wolverines who didn't have the chance to walk across the stage on graduation day. Chairs draped in caps and gowns, were in honor of the late Nevaeh Howard, Nazir Parker, and Rimel Williamson, Woodland Hills seniors who should have walked with their classmates. Students, staff, family, and friends honored their memory and grieve with their families.

New Childcare Center in Monroeville to Open This Fall!
Reclamation Community Center over by Monroeville Community park opened over a year ago with high hopes of serving the surrounding community. We established a food pantry, a free health clinic is in the works, and had desired to create a program (or multiple programs) for children. With plans to get programs up and running that would benefit low-income families, there were many ideas on the table, but how would these ideas turn into successful programs? What is the most immediate need in the area right now? One of the most immediate needs of the community here in Monroeville, as well as many communities nation-wide, is childcare. There just aren't enough childcare programs period, and high quality ones at that. We have been so graciously supported by so many people who want to be involved and this has made our dreams come to life! We are proud to announce that Reclamation Community Center will be opening Haven Childcare Center this coming fall! We are a faith-based, project-based childcare center that loves and utilizes the outdoors! There are three separate programs. Haven Daycare will be open from 7am-6pm Monday through Friday year round accepting infants through age 5. Haven Preschool will be 9am-12pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from September to May accepting children ages 3-5. The Lindsay Theater Taps Josh Axelrod as Director of Communications and Media Relations
The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center has selected Josh Axelrod, former Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reporter, as its new Director of Communications and Media Relations for the nonprofit organization. An award-winning journalist who spent most of the last five years covering sports, movies, TV, local media, theater and more for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Axelrod is a Rotten Tomatoes-certified critic. He has covered a slew of locally made films and interviewed Pittsburgh-connected celebrities such as Michael Keaton, Jeff Goldblum, Billy Porter, Joe Manganiello, Rob Marshall, Antoine Fuqua, Billy Gardell, Gillian Jacob and Maddie Ziegler. After earning a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Maryland in 2014, Axelrod continued with a master's degree in Media & Strategic Communication from George Washington University in 2019. This time spent in metro Washington, D.C. led to bylines everywhere from NBC Washington to the Washington Examiner and Military Times. "I moved back home in 2019 to further my journalism career at a newspaper that has been so important to my family and me for the last 50-plus years," Axelrod says. Instrumental in launching the Post-Gazette's Goodness section, Josh's work helped it earn a special "reader initiative award" at the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association's 2022 Keystone Media Awards. That year, his arts and culture criticism portfolio was recognized by the Society for Features Journalism, whose judges noted that his "reviews are entertaining and smartly connect the material back to local readers." In 2023, he received a Golden Quill award from the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania for excellence in written arts/entertainment journalism. "Five years after joining the Post-Gazette, I'm ready for a new adventure," Axelrod shares. "I couldn't have asked for a better first foray into the world of communications than The Lindsay!" Axelrod came to know The Lindsay through his many Post-Gazette features, ranging from the Theater's name change to the Barbenheimer phenomenon and Unsinkable. "It seemed like every other local filmmaker who was screening their latest movie was doing so at The Lindsay," Axelrod recalls. "This Theater clearly has a sterling reputation in our region and among Pittsburgh's thriving film scene. I can't wait to let everyone know about all the awesome events and programs The Lindsay has in store for them!" The Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center, formerly The Tull Family Theater, is an independent, film-driven arts nonprofit located at 418 Walnut St. in Sewickley.

Luigi Chinetti Jr. To Speak About Ferrari's First Lemans Win In 1949 At Cortile Italian Car Show Luncheon
The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix (PVGP) is thrilled to announce that Luigi Chinetti Jr. will be the distinguished guest speaker at the Cortile Italian Car Show luncheon on Saturday, August 3. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear Chinetti Jr. share his captivating experiences from the 1949 Le Mans, a race that marked a significant moment in automotive history. As a young man, Luigi Chinetti Jr. witnessed the first Le Mans race held after World War II, an event that not only revived the legendary circuit but also set the stage for Ferrari's legacy in motorsports. His father, Luigi Chinetti Sr., secured his third victory in this historic race, driving the Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta. This victory was instramental in propelling Ferrari onto the world stage, despite initial reluctance from Enzo Ferrari himself. The 1949 24 Hours of Le Mans was the first race held at the Circuit de la Sarthe since 1939, due to the interruption caused by World War II. The event symbolized the revival of endurance racing in Europe and marked a new era for motorsports. Luigi Chinetti Sr., co-driving with Peter Mitchell-Thomson, 2nd Baron Selsdon, clinched the win in the Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta. Luigi Chinetti Sr. drove for an astonishing 23 out of the 24 hours, showcasing his extraordinary endurance and skill. His determination and resilience were key factors in securing the victory for Ferrari. This victory was significant as it marked Ferrari's first major international win, establishing the brand's reputation in endurance racing. The Ferrari 166 MM Barchetta, with its sleek design and V12 engine, became an iconic model in automotive history. The car's performance at Le Mans showcased Ferrari's engineering prowess and set the stage for future successes. The race was not without its challenges. The Ferrari team faced stiff competition from other manufacturers, including Aston Martin and Delahaye. Despite mechanical issues and the grueling nature of the race, Chinetti's expertise and the car's reliability led them to triumph.According to several sources, Enzo Ferrari was initially hesitant about entering the 166 MM Barchetta in the race. However, Chinetti Sr. was instrumental in persuading Ferrari and orchestrating the car's participation, which ultimately proved to be a game-changing decision for the company. The victory at Le Mans was a turning point for Ferrari, providing the company with invaluable publicity and solidifying its reputation as a leader in high-performance racing cars. This win helped Ferrari attract customers and establish a strong market presence, particularly in North America. Following the success at Le Mans, Luigi Chinetti Sr. played a crucial role in developing Ferrari's North American dealer network. His efforts helped to popularize Ferrari in the United States, making the brand synonymous with luxury and performance. The Cortile Italian Car Show luncheon promises to be an engaging and insightful event, offering enthusiasts a rare glimpse into the Chinetti family's rich heritage and contributions to the world of motorsports. Don't miss this chance to hear firsthand accounts of one of the most influential races in history and the story of how Ferrari's legacy was shaped by the Chinetti family's passion and perseverance.
