Gail (Platt) Altman, 81, of Irwin, died Monday, March 18, 2024, at home. She was born Nov. 9, 1942 in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Ralph Francis and Edwina (DeWalt) Platt; and was also preceded in death by her brother, Gordon Platt. Gail received a master's degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and was a retired English teacher for the Norwin School District. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Irwin, and also a member of the Women's Club, the Book Club, the Welcome Wagon, Sweet Adelines, and The Muses theater group. She authored two books, "Tales from Tinker Run" and "Irwin Abstracts," wrote poetry, and taught music at the Norwin YMCA. She is survived by her husband, George Irwin Altman II; her daughter, Kristin Altman (Ken Pollard) of Pittsburgh; grandchildren, Olivea, Demitri, Trinity, and Isaiah; a sister, Linda Thomas (Drew) of Indiana; also nieces and nephews. Friends were received Thursday, March 21, at the WILLIAM SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, 521 Main Street, Irwin, where a funeral service was held Friday, March 22. Interment followed in Brush Creek Cemetery.
