Verona officials are accepting applications to fill a council vacancy.

Timothy Long’s resignation was accepted during council’s June 16 meeting. Long was elected to a four-year seat November 2023. A reason for his resignation was not publicly stated.

“We definitely want to commend his dedication to the borough, especially to our parks and recreation programs,” said council President Trish Hredzack.

Applications for the position are due by July 6. Anyone who is a resident of Verona for a year more, 18 or older and registered to vote is eligible to apply.

According to a release from borough officials, council is, in part, looking for an appointee who will prioritize council service, use research and data to make decisions, and approach challenges professionally and ethically.

While residents from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply, the release states that skills in areas including finance, law, construction, parks and recreation, or project management are especially useful.

The appointed term runs through December 2027.

To apply, residents can access a link to the application at veronaborough.org, or on the borough’s Facebook page.
