Taking a community-focused approach, the Verona Police Department is inviting residents to spend some time outside this summer.
On July 18, the department will host a youth kickball tournament at Cribbs Field in Verona. Children in sixth grade and younger are invited to participate.
The event starts at noon, and every child participating will receive a T-shirt. Free food will be provided for participants.
Anyone who has a child who has not signed up for the tournament and wants to play can email the police department at veronapolice@veronaborough.org with the child’s name, grade, parent’s name and phone number.
The second event of the summer will be the borough’s second annual National Night Out.
On Aug. 4 at 5:30 p.m., residents are invited to Railroad Park in Verona. The event will feature food vendors, games and music. Representatives from various first responder agencies in the area will be there to speak with community members.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for the community — especially local children — to come together and connect,” Verona police Chief Thomas Dessell told TribLive.
