Day on the Lawn rummage sale donation drop-off days will take place on the following dates from 9 a.m. through noon: Aug. 17 and Aug. 31. Visit the website for donation guidelines. The Day on the Lawn sale will be held on Sept. 7 and all proceeds are given to mission organizations.

There will be a Community Worship Service on Aug. 18 at 4 p.m. on the Faith House lawn. Churches from the Sewickley Community will be taking part in the service. All are invited to attend.

Sewickley United Methodist Church

The Sewickley United Methodist is hosting a free community vacation bible school from 5:45 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 5-8 for students from pre-school through eighth grade. St. Paul’s Lutheran and St. Matthews AME Zion churches of Sewickley are co-sponsoring. Activities include science, games, crafts, music, snacks and Bible storytelling. The “Seekers in Sneakers” theme will lead campers to seek and share the love of Jesus.

The Sewickley United Methodist Church has two services each Sunday: 9 a.m. contemporary, featuring our praise band Leap of Faith; and 11 a.m. traditional, with nursery care and children’s ministries during both services. The church is a reconciling congregation and openly welcomes all people.

St. Brendan’s Episcopal Church

St. Brendan’s is an open, welcoming and active church that holds in-person worship with Eucharist at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Sundays and 6 p.m. on Wednesdays. Nursery coverage is available for children at the Sunday 10 o’clock service, which is live-streamed on YouTube. Sunday School is on hiatus for the summer.

This month’s Taize will be held on July 31 at 6 p.m. in the chapel. The quiet, contemplative service offers meditation and a chance to uncouple from the noise and busyness of modern life.

During July, parishioners are collecting these items for the North Hills Food Bank: napkins, paper towels, plastic wrap, foil, food storage bags and common household cleaning products. Donations may be brought to the church lobby.

Sticks and Strings, the church’s fiber arts club, meets on the first Friday and third Wednesday of each month. Anyone who knits, crochets, embroiders or works with other handheld fiber arts is invited to meet in the library at 6-8 p.m. for fun, fellowship and handcrafting.

The parish will hold its annual picnic July 28 at Blueberry Hill Park in Franklin Park. The 10 a.m. service will be held at the Maple Grove Pavilion, followed by food, fun and fellowship.

With Covid cases on the rise, St. Brendan’s is adhering to its Mask-Up Sunday policy, which requires masks to be worn by everyone attending the 10 a.m. service on the first Sunday of the month. This provides an extra degree of protection so that visitors with health concerns can enjoy in-person worship. The next Mask-Up Sunday will be Aug. 4.

St. Brendan’s Book Club will meet Aug. 5 at 1 p.m. in the church library to discuss “The Wager” by David Grann. The book is the true, gripping account of the mutiny, murder and shipwreck of a 1741 British ship while rounding Cape Horn.

The Christy House (located on the corner of Frederick and Walnut streets in Sewickley) serves lunch every Friday from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Reservations can be made online at ststephenschurch.net/christyhouse. Cost is $18, which includes two soups, salad, bread, drinks and homemade cookies for dessert. All proceeds benefit various ministries and missions, particularly those involving the needs of women and children.

Triumph Church

In partnership with the Pittsburgh Community Food Bank, Triumph Church is offering those in our community a diverse selection of grocery items focusing on fresh produce, dairy products and protein sources. Food will be distributed on the fourth Friday of each month from 6-7 p.m. Advance registration is required online at triumph1293.org. Register by Aug. 16 for pickup on Aug. 23.

A single mothers and fathers recognition will take place Aug. 4 and volunteer appreciation is Aug. 25.
