Sewickley Academy senior Sebastian Tan was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Be More Fund by the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) for her world betterment project, OutsideConnection. Tan founded OutsideConnection, a free second-chance job platform that connects people who were previously incarcerated to filtered, fair-chance job opportunities. OutsideConnection spans more than 17 states and 31 cities, working with 10+ organizations, some of which service the entire country, while others focus on certain states or regions. The web-based platform is distributed to these organizations as a free resource, allowing them to place reentrants in their region quickly and efficiently. While OutsideConnection has made great progress in reaching 10,000+ reentrants, Tan’s goal is to expand to help even more people.
