A colorful and costume-filled Halloween scene was on full display during the annual Sewickley Halloween parade held on Oct. 26.

The free annual event is sponsored by the Rotary Club of Quaker Valley and draws hundreds of participants from surrounding communities to Sewickley Village.

Rotary Club of Quaker Valley president Scott Zahner estimated attendance at around 700.

“It’s for the community. Watching the little kids have fun and seeing all the different costumes — that’s what it’s about,” Zahner said.

The Rotary has hosted an annual parade since its founding in 1987.

The route began at the borough building along Thorn Street and continued down Walnut, Beaver and Chestnut Steets and ended in front of Cochran Hose Company on Thorn.

“Monsters Inc.” grandparents Jeff and Christine Deglmann of Stowe Township almost never miss the annual Sewickley Halloween parade.

Free food and drinks were offered after the parade, compliments of local sponsors and Rotary volunteers.

Grandparents Jeff and Christine Deglmann of Stowe Township attended dressed as characters from Pixar’s hit movie “Monsters Inc.”

“We decorated our house Halloween crazy for 20 years and we always attend here,” Christine Deglmann said. “It’s a lot of fun and it’s awesome.”

Rotary volunteers passed out more than 400 lemonade drinks, hot dogs and treat bags.

Zahner noted the parade gets bigger and bigger and the feedback is robust.

“They enjoy the community event and the effort we put into it,” Zahner said.

About 30 volunteers from Sewickley Police, Cochran Hose Company, the Rotary, Sewickley Public Works and area businesses and community members work to provide a festive event for all ages.

“I’m grateful for everyone from the Quaker Valley community showing up and there were a lot of great costumes,” Zahner said.
