Sewickley Academy senior Sebastian Tan was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Be More Fund by the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS) for her world betterment project, OutsideConnection. Tan founded OutsideConnection, a free second-chance job platform that connects people who were previously incarcerated to filtered, fair-chance job opportunities. OutsideConnection spans more than 17 states and 31 cities, working with 10 organizations, some of which service the entire country, while others focus on certain states or regions. The web-based platform is distributed to these organizations as a free resource, allowing them to place reentrants in their region quickly and efficiently. While OutsideConnection has made great progress in reaching 10,000 reentrants, Tan’s goal is to expand to help even more people.
