Two Quaker Valley School District officials were recognized by state legislators for their recent honors.
State Rep. Valerie Gaydos, R-Allegheny, gave citations to school resource officer David Watts and district food service director Carla Escribano at a school board meeting Aug. 22.
Gaydos also presented them with citations on behalf of state Sen. Devlin Robinson, R-Allegheny. She noted the support of state Rep. Dan Deasy, D-Pittsburgh, when giving Watts his citation.
“One of the things that’s neat about these things is that this is bipartisan,” Gaydos said.
She said both Watts and Escribano were exceptional individuals in their fields. Citations were given in recognition of Watts and Escribano’s recent accomplishments.
Watts was given the Regional Exceptional Service Award from the National Association of School Resource Officers earlier this year.
Watts, 53, a retired state trooper from Pittsburgh, was selected for receive the award for Region 3, which includes Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey and Delaware.
The award is presented to individuals who go above and beyond in their for continuous and sustained service to the school community, according to the NASRO website.
Escribano was recently named Director of the Year by the the School Nutrition Association of Pennsylvania.
Escribano, a registered dietitian, joined Quaker Valley in 2018 after serving as a clinical dietitian at Villa St. Joseph.
SNAPA is the statewide nonprofit organization of school nutrition professionals committed to advancing the quality of child nutrition programs through education and advocacy. It was organized in 1955.
The Director of the Year Award is presented each year at the state, regional and national level.
Escribano’s nomination will be reviewed by a regional panel of judges and would advance to the national School Nutrition Association level should she be recognized as the regional Director of the Year.
It is unclear when the regional Director of the Year will be announced.
