Donald W. 'Droop' Palmer, 81, of Latrobe, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born May 27, 1943, in Latrobe, he was a son of the late Hughes E. and Anna Elizabeth (Harr) Palmer. Prior to his retirement, he was employed at Westmoreland Plastics. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam Era. Donald was an avid woodworker and hunter. He enjoyed traveling, especially to Myrtle Beach, and spending time with his grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Mary Kuhns, John Palmer, Roy Palmer, Thelma Guyer, Charles Palmer, Richard Palmer, Shirley Patton, August Palmer, and Robert Palmer. Donald is survived by his wife of 59 years, Eva A. (Jellison) Palmer of Latrobe; three sons, Donald W. Palmer Jr., and his wife, Mari Jo, Kevin R. Palmer, and his wife, Missy, and Keith A. Palmer, and his wife, Carol, all of Latrobe; one brother, Francis Palmer of Sierra Vista, AZ; seven grandchildren, Rachelle, Elizabeth, RaeAnna, Corey, Carson, Donald III, and Kalei; two great-grandchildren, Alivia and Colson; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the ICU Department at Allegheny General Hospital, Mutual Aid, the Latrobe Volunteer Fire Department and the Latrobe Police Department, especially officers Sherback and Lukon, for their excellent care and service.
