Joseph Antonio (Pepe) Fernandez, 90, passed away in his home in Delmont on May 15, 2024. Born on June 23,1933, Pepe was the son of the late Jose Ramon and Maria Antonio Fernandez of Donora, formerly of Asturias, Spain. Pepe was very proud of his Spanish heritage. He spoke Spanish fluently. He enjoyed visiting Spain and Majorca. Pepe loved to travel. He had a deep appreciation for the cultures of other lands. Following his graduation from Donora High School, Pepe was employed by the USS Zinc Works in Donora. He later retired from the USS Irvin Works plant after 44 years of service. Pepe was blessed with many years to enjoy his retirement. He could often be found at the mall or Panera Bread, conversing with friends. He was easily spotted by his full head of silver hair. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Orr Young; three stepsons, Bryan (Lisa) Young of Vandergrift, Richard Young of Seminole, FL, and Charles (Gretchen) Young of Ford City; five step- grandchildren, Samantha Young of Pittsburgh, Scout Young of Leechburg, Benjamin Young of Raleigh, NC, Christian Young of Pensacola, FL, and Zeke Young of Raleigh, NC; and twin step- great-grandsons, Eli and Zak Bruni of New Kensington. He is also survived by nieces, Judy (Markle) Ruggieri, Carrie (Markle) Richards, and Pamela Markle. A sister, Matilda (Fernandez) Markle; a nephew, Harold Markle Jr; and a step-granddaughter, Ashley Young, preceded him in death. At Pepe's request, there will be no viewing and services will be private. Pepe will be laid to rest in Twin Valley Cemetery in Delmont PA.
