Fox Chapel police Sgt. Craig Sorg understands building strong working relationships between community members and officers is key to creating a safe environment.

Sorg and other borough patrolmen and women hope opening the station doors will help that process.

An open house is planned for 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 10 at 401 Fox Chapel Road.

The event is free. Participants will be able to tour the station, sit in patrol cars and take pictures.

Light refreshments will be served.

“The purpose of the event is for the community to meet and get to know their police department,” Sorg said. “We are working to build a bond between the community and the police. (That) is very important to our organization.”

The department’s 1970 Volkswagen Beetle, commonly referred to as a “Bug” also will be on display. The community car’s major remodeling project is nearly complete. Some interior work still needs to be done.

Sorg said about 75 families came out to the inaugural open house last year. He hopes at least 100 people come out this time.
