  Since Bethel Bakery opened for business in 1955 in the South Hills of Pittsburgh, generations of patrons have made their way to the shop for the bakery's signature pastries, cookies, and one-of-a-kind cakes. With a number of years of bakery experience, a stint in the Navy behind him, and a small inheritance, Morris Walsh, with characteristic determination, made his dream of owning his own bakery a reality when he and a partner opened for business during the Eisenhower administration. After his business partner left the venture within a few months, Morris soon gained another associate, his future wife, Anna. Together, the couple built the neighborhood bakery into one of the busiest and most beloved purveyors of high-quality baked goods in Western Pennsylvania. And they did it while raising seven children, all of whom worked in the family business. Today, a second generation of the Walsh family manages the bakery. John and his wife, Chris, took over day-to-day operations in 1991 and expanded the already extensive inventory of baked goods, but Morris and Anna's legacy of exceptional quality and customer service lives on. People travel for miles for a taste of Bethel Bakery's signature buttercream icing and couples across the region wouldn't dream of celebrating their nuptials with anything but a hand-crafted, custom-designed Bethel Bakery cake decorated by one of the shop's talented designers.

  Frisch’s originally opened in 1948 as Carrick Poultry by Albert Bolz, father of RoseMarie (Bolz) Frisch. In 1958 the business was purchased by Jack Frisch, husband of RoseMarie. In 1963 when broasted chicken originated, Jack started what would become his famous broasted chicken. At this time the company was still called Carrick Poultry. Fresh Poultry, Fresh Seafood and Broasted Chicken created the foundation to build a strong family business. Looking to expand, Chicken Derby then located in Baldwin Courts was opened in the late 1960’s. By 1976, it was time to expand again. The original Caste Village Carrick Poultry location opened and Dennis Frisch started on his career. By then Carrick Poultry had added pizza, hoagies and a Deli of the finest meats and cheeses. Business grew and soon this location was too small. In, 1991 Carrick Poultry moved into, what was at one time, the AandP Grocery Store location in Caste Village. The move across the parking lot brought big changes for the company. From these first rate facilities, the smell of fresh homemade soup brought customers into the new restaurant. Now, for the first time Frisch’s had a full service restaurant, deli, banquet room, and catering kitchen to go along with its core business. Sherry Frisch, Dennis’ wife, expanded the catering service into the business it is today. No job is too big or small. They are ready, along with a team of dedicated long term employees, to make your event enjoyable and easy. With a new location, 3 generations of family members all working together, there was only one more change needed. A few years ago, Frisch’s Carrick Poultry became Frisch’s. We want to thank all of our faithful customers who have supported our efforts for the last 60 years. We are committed, as a family, to offer the finest foods, in the nicest surroundings, served by caring and dedicated employees and family members.

  Page Dairy Mart is currently located at the intersection of Becks Run Road and E. Carson Street, Pittsburgh, PA. The Page family built a Gulf Service and Gas Station on this property years after this photo was taken. Becks Run Road was eventually redirected under the railroad trestle approximately 75-100 feet south of where it appears in this photo. The building that appears in this photo was known as the Hays Mansion and was the home of the Butterweck family. Emma Butterweck was born here and grew up to marry Charles Alexander Page. The building was destroyed in the Saint Patrick’s Flood and no longer exists. It is interesting to note that the road is not paved but a wooden boardwalk is visible for foot traffic. You can see what appear to be horse-drawn trolley tracks near the bottom of the photo (see the water-filled hoof marks between the tracks). There is a shadow of a telephone pole and power line coming up from the bottom left-hand corner. A gas streetlight is on the corner. This photo was probably taken in the spring and sometime near 1900.
