WIFE: The airbags in your car work really well. Concerning the garbage collection contract, there is good news and great news. The good news is that council voted unanimously in favor of the contract with Republic Services. The great news is that there is no bad news. On October 9th, after a Special Meeting with a presentation by Republic Services and input from residents, council voted unanimously to enter into a five-year contract for garbage collection services. Typically, we do not enter into long-term contracts. However, in this case, it is financially prudent to do so, in order to spread the cost out over the five-year term and to lock in the price. Additionally, there will be no tax increase in the 2024 budget for this service. Under this contract, every household in Penn Hills will receive a new heavy duty garbage receptacle, along with a new recycling receptacle. These are called "carts" because they have wheels on them and are easy to maneuver. It is expected that the new acarts/trash cans will cut down on litter, improve collection time, and give a better appearance on collection day, since all streets will have a uniform appearance. Modernizing trash collection in this manner is the economically and environmentally responsible thing to do. icipality of Per Hame Rule Comman Republic expects to start delivering the carts by December/January and continuing until all households receive a cart. Once you receive your cart, you can begin to use it immediately. The cart will be lifted by an apparatus or "arm" attached to the truck, which is expected to make collection more effective and efficient.
