H The Municipality of PENN HILLS A HOME RULE COMMUNITY Mayor's Message By Mayor Pauline Calabrese It's been said, "Volunteers don't get paid, not because they're worthless, but because they are priceless." In 2019, the Trib reported that according to the financial website GoBankingRates.com, Penn Hills has been rated one of the best places to live in Pennsylvania as a retired person. One of the amenities we are proud to offer at the municipal level is our Senior Services. Delicious meals are offered by our Penn Hills Senior Service Center. The meals can be enjoyed on location or they can be delivered. However, while we have a professional staff at the Center, volunteers are always needed and very much welcomed. Volunteers are currently needed as follows: KITCHEN - In the Kitchen, the volunteer would help to plate the daily meals, pass them out at the counter, and help to clean the area by wiping around the steam table, wiping off the two prep tables and generally tidying up. After lunch, most time would be between 1 & 2 hours - you pick the day that you are available to help. Please call Linda at 412-244-3410 for more information. HOME DELIVERY - The Home Delivered Meals program needs safe drivers and 'runners' who accompany the drivers and deliver the meals. The meals are frozen and need to be put into the coolers for delivery; a 'continental' style breakfast is also packaged for each senior. The only clean up would be to put away containers because the Center does not prepare food for this program. Volunteers do not use their own vehicle. The Center has vehicles. This is about a 2-hour commitment. The Center delivers only three days a week - Monday, Wednesday & Friday - providing meals for 5 days. No weekend delivery. You can choose any Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Please call Jan at 412-244-3408 for more information. SPECIAL EVENTS - Volunteers help to plan, decorate and clean after the event: a 1- or 2-hour time commitment. Please call Linda at 412-244-3410 for more information.
