Author of The Surveyor and the Silversmith, his recent historical narrative of both the Leet and Shields families and their settlement of the Sewickley Valley, Orr will address the temptations and dangers of making conjectures or "educated" guesses. Although guided by hundreds of original letters, actual ledgers surviving since 1765, and troves of digitized correspondence housed in Philadelphia, Orr hopes to explain why historians often write to fill in certain gaps a process that may be logical and satisfying, but it can also only be done at the peril of truth and what really may have happened.
