Brackenridge Council will have a different look next month for the first time in several years.
The borough is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy after council on Thursday accepted the resignation of member John Stanzione.
He announced last month that his family was moving to Lower Burrell. Stanzione was first elected in 2015 and most recently served as vice president.
Council has 30 days to appoint a new member.
That person will serve the remainder of the year but would have to run in the November election to fill the two years left on Stanzione’s term, according to Solicitor Craig Alexander.
The next regularly scheduled meeting is May 1, which falls within the timeline, Alexander said.
“You can bring the applicants in to talk with them, or you can narrow it down, or you can just pick someone,” he said. “There are no rules on how to do it — only on the timing.”
Councilman Dino Lopreiato said anyone interested in serving on council has to be a registered voter and have lived in the borough for at least a year.
They also must live in the 2nd Ward, which is bordered by Freeport Road, and Mile Lock Lane and Morgan Street, both to the Harrison line.
Lopreiato hopes to appoint someone open-minded and dedicated to public service.
“I would like someone who cares about their community and understands or is willing to learn the process of local government,” Lopreiato said.
If for any reason council is unable to appoint a replacement within the 30 days, the ruling would default to the borough’s vacancy board.
Council voted member Tim Kolar to serve as vice president after Stanzione’s resignation was official.
