A new face will be leading Chartiers Valley High School in the coming years, as Michael Sable was hired as the school’s principal at a salary of $130,000.

“I’m extremely honored to be high school principal,” Sable said. “I’m excited to meet everyone, and I’m ready to lead students to the best educational experience at the high school level.”

Sable, 44, comes from Belle Vernon Area High School where he was principal for five years.

“During that time, I worked with the community to help build the morale, build the school up as best we could,” Sable said.

That included an initiative with teachers to learn how best to use artificial intelligence in the classroom, Sable said. In 2022, he was recognized by the Navy as an “Impact Influencer” for education.

From 2002 to 2019, Sable worked in different teaching, coaching and administrative positions in the West Mifflin Area School District.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Clarion University, his master’s degree and principal’s certificate from Gannon University and his doctorate in advanced leadership studies from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

He said he was drawn to the education field because he has a passion for watching students learn and grow.

“I remember Chartiers Valley when I was in high school and it being a prestigious school district, and it still is,” Sable said. “I feel my leadership skills are well-suited to help them with their goals.”

He is looking forward to working with the team of principals at the high school and building relationships with staff and students there. He said he hopes to enhance the district’s mission and gather feedback from the school community to improve things at the high school.

Sable lives in Jefferson Hills with his wife and three children.

Sable’s hiring was approved by a 7-2 vote during a meeting July 22. Opposed were board members Lisa Trainor and Megan Sexton. Neither responded to requests for comment.

“I am excited to have Dr. Michael Sable leading the high school as our new principal,” said School Board President Darren Mariano. “Dr. Sable’s experience and leadership make him an excellent fit for our community. I am confident he will be a positive addition to our school district.”
