“Caniacs” will soon be able to get their chicken fix locally.

The Raising Cane’s location at 3610 Fifth Ave. in Oakland is set to open on Oct. 10. A second restaurant, at 384 Lincoln Hwy. in North Versailles, should open in early November.

The Oakland restaurant will be located in the former bar and grill Thirsty Scholar.

The location in North Versailles, which was originally a First National Bank, will be in a new building on the site.

Both will have dine-in and takeout options as well as mobile ordering. The North Versailles eatery will also have two drive-thru lanes.

A third location is planned for South Fayette sometime in the first quarter of 2024.

Raising Cane’s chicken fingers meals come with lemonade, Texas toast and the signature Cane’s sauce, which is a top-secret recipe — most of the employees don’t even know the ingredients. It’s described as “tangy with a little bit of spice.”

“We’re so excited to expand across the Keystone State,” said regional vice president Jen Szewc in a statement. “Our first six Pennsylvania restaurants have been very warmly received.”

Started in Baton Rouge, La., in 1996, Raising Cane’s has more than 750 restaurants in more than 35 states, the Middle East and Guam. The plan is to open an additional 100 through the end of 2023.

Russell Ford, senior vice president of marketing for Champion, a food and beverage public relations agency, said via email that Allegheny County is an area the company has “had our eye on for a while.”

He called the Oakland spot ideal because of its proximity to Pitt, Carnegie Mellon, Carlow and Duquesne universities and several hospitals.

The North Versailles restaurant offers the opportunity to serve the southeast part of the city, Ford said.

The company plans to hire more than 200 employees with pay starting at $15 per hour.

“At Raising Cane’s, we take great pride in our crewmembers and pride ourselves on providing a fun, unique culture within each restaurant,” Ford said. “We offer competitive weekly pay and the opportunity for quick advancement. Cane’s has comprehensive training and incentive programs making it a great place to grow in your career.”
