Hampton Community Library’s summer reading program starts June 1 and runs through Aug. 10.
Register for in-person programs at the library and start reading to earn raffle tickets for prizes. Please note there are no children’s programs the week of July 4.
Also featured at the library:
• Saturday Storytime, 11 to 11:45 a.m. June 8, ages 3 and older. Enjoy stories, rhymes and songs.
• Pigeons Under Cover: Heroes of the World, 1:30 p.m. June 13 and 10:30 a.m. June 29. The program is an introduction to Pigeon Heroes Summer Camp, offered by Ken Haselrig of Dovecote Missions, and is for children going into third grade through middle school. Registration is appreciated.
• Olaf’s Summer Party, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. June 18, featuring fun and games celebrating summer. The event is for children ages 4 to 8, and registration is required.
• Dragons Bring Adventure, 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursdays, for children ages 7 to 11. Each month will feature a different dragon theme, including Dungeons & Dragons for June 20 and 27. Registration is appreciated.
• Check Mate: Summer Chess Club, 10 a.m. to noon Mondays, June 17 through Aug. 5, for children ages 5 to 12. All skill levels are welcomed. Please register when you visit to play.
• Adventures in Storytime, 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 11 through Aug. 8, for families and abilities of all ages. Please note this will be the same program each day.
• Party at the Pavilion: Stories and Play Time, 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 18 through Aug. 8. Outdoor fun, rain or shine, is featured at the Grubbs Pavilion in Hampton Community Park for families and abilities of all ages.
Enjoy stories, songs, music, bubbles and a parachute. The program runs approximately 30 to 45 minutes, with the same program each day. Inclement weather may move program indoors, without the parachute.
• All Abilities Club, 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. June 14 and 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. June 25, for adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities and their caregivers. Featured are literacy activities, crafts and much more.
• Adventures in Scrapbooking, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 17. Maria Golio from Creative Memories will share, teach and support fellow scrapbookers and their goals. No registration is required.
• Adventures in Origami, 1 to 3 p.m. July 16, for participants 16 and older. Join Mary Garnett as she teaches one-on-one instruction on how to create a butterfly. Registration is limited. Examples of Mary’s creations are displayed in the library.
• Cooks-n-Books Potluck Picnic, 6:30 p.m. June 27 at the Rotary Pavilion in Hampton Community Park. Create your favorite dish and bring it to share.
• Card Club, 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays. Enjoy a game of 500 Bid or something new.
• Murder By the Book: A Mystery Book Discussion, 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Grubbs Pavilion. Everyone who is interested in great reads is invited to join. Call the library at 412-684-1098 to request a copy of each month’s selection. June 19 is “Strange Sally Diamond” by Liz Nugent.
• Betty’s Book Buzz Discussion Group, 1 p.m. Fridays. Everyone who is interested in great conversations and good reads is invited to join. Contact the library at 412-684-1098 to request a copy of each month’s selection. June 21 is “Mad Honey” by Jodi Picoult.
Summer hours at the library, located at the Hampton Community Center, extend through Labor Day: Monday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Tuesday and Thursday, 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Wednesday, 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (starting June 12); Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Library will be closed July 3 and 4, and during Labor Day weekend, Aug. 31 through Sept. 2.
