The school year is gearing up again, but weekends are still free! There are lots of options for a few hours of fun — with or without the kids — at one of these five events this weekend around Allegheny County.

Movie Night on the Lawn: ‘The Sandlot’

The last of this summer’s Movie Nights on the Lawn at Hazelwood Green Plaza is the 1993 modern classic “The Sandlot.” Make memories with a new generation by seeing this coming-of-age film about baseball and friendship that is beloved by all ages.

The plaza opens at 6:30 p.m. and the evening will kick off with carnival games before the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Make sure to bring blankets or lawn chairs to be comfortable throughout the movie.

A variety of vendors and food trucks with food and beverages will also be at the event. Complimentary popcorn, while supplies last, will be available as well, courtesy of Row House Cinema. Learn more at hazelwoodlocal.com.

Frostapalooza

A giant supergroup benefit concert will be rocking Mr. Smalls Theatre in Millvale Saturday night. A variety of musicians from local groups will come together for a mix of covers and originals — for two good causes.

The benefit concert combines 40 musicians in one night, and each $20 general admission ticket benefits Project Healthy Minds, a nonprofit supporting mental health resources, and NextStep Pittsburgh, a local spinal injury rehabilitation center. The show starts at 8 p.m.

Bloomfield Little Italy Days

It’s once again the time of year to celebrate Pittsburgh’s own Little Italy, Bloomfield. The festival will be open from noon to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

Attendees can enjoy tons of delicious food options, vendors and business booths, more than 30 music acts, a Miss Little Italy pageant, bocce and more. VIP packages, which include access to VIP spaces, a slice of pizza, a bottle of water and a T-shirt are available.

Comedian Joel Kim Booster at Bottlerocket

Comedian, actor and writer Joel Kim Booster’s star has rocketed sky-high in the past couple of years. From hit comedy specials to the critically-acclaimed “Fire Island,” the Chicago native has captured the attention of audiences.

So much so that the Friday show at Bottlerocket Social Hall in Allentown is already sold out. Fortunately, there are two Saturday shows — one at 7 p.m. and one at 9:30 p.m. — that still have tickets up for grabs.

Parks On Tap in Highland Park

As part of their ongoing Parks on Tap series, the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy will be in Highland Park Sunday for a pop-up beer garden.

At the volleyball courts, attendees can enjoy beer from 11th Hour Brewing, get food from various local food trucks and enjoy live music. It’s a great opportunity to take in Pittsburgh’s green spaces, meet neighbors and friends, and enjoy an afternoon out that benefits the Parks Conservancy.

Parks on Tap will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. Sunday. Register for the event at pittsburghparks.org.
