Camp Invention events
Students in kindergarten through sixth grades are invited to take part in Camp Invention, a nationally recognized summer enrichment program, which will be held at several locations this summer in Monroeville.
Each year, the program features curriculum inspired by the new class of inductees at the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
It will be at Gateway Middle School, 4450 Old William Penn Highway, from June 9-12, and at the Monroeville Church of the Brethren, 481 Center Road, on Aug. 11-15.

Food pantry
The Garden City Food Pantry will host a food distribution day from 9-11 a.m. and 6-7 p.m. May 8 at 500 Laurel Drive in Monroeville.
Distributions will take place on the second Thursday of each month. Additional distribution days will be June 12, July 10, Aug. 14, Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11.

Carson Scholars named
Three students from the Gateway School District have been chosen as 2025 Carson Scholars.
Each year the Carson Scholars Fund honors an elite group of students from grades 4-11 who not only demonstrate exceptional academic achievement, maintaining at least a 3.75 GPA, but also embody significant humanitarian qualities. These scholars are awarded a $1,000 college scholarship, an Olympic-sized medal and a certificate.
Gateway High School students Adrian Tello and Geysa Timoneda Serrano, and Gateway Elementary student Rylee Freeman were among the nearly 580 scholars named this year.
Scholars were recognized at an April 6 banquet at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh.
School district seeks sponsorships

Association of University People
The Association of University People invites potential new members to join them at an event.
Upcoming Local Events
The association invites singles age 50 and older, who are four-year college graduates, to join them for activities and to meet new people. Activities include picnics, monthly dinners, a book group and meetups at local concerts and wineries.

Divine Mercy Academy cheer camp
Registration is open for Divine Mercy Academy’s Saber Summer Cheer Camp, which will be held from 6-8 p.m. June 23-26. This year’s theme is “Neon Lights and Saber Nights.”
Camp is open to all school students entering kindergarten through eighth grade in the fall. Students will learn basic cheerleading skills while building school spirit and teamwork. A showcase for family and friends will be held June 26.
Students will receive pompoms to use at the showcase and then take home. Register by June 1 to receive a free Sabers Cheer T-shirt. The fee is $30; payment (cash or check made out to DMAAA) can be dropped off or mailed to Divine Mercy Academy, 245 Azalea Drive, Monroeville, 15146. Flaherty memorial golf outing
The third annual Peter Flaherty IV Memorial Golf Outing will take place July 27 in Penn Hills.
Flaherty, a 2018 Gateway graduate, died in 2021 of complications related to type 1 diabetes. Proceeds benefit the Flaherty Memorial Scholarship Fund, which is distributed to seniors graduating in 2026. Since the event’s inception in 2023, it has generated about $15,000 in scholarships.
The outing will begin at 8 a.m. (registration at 7 a.m.) at the 3 Lakes Golf Course, 6700 Saltsburg Road, Penn Hills. The cost is $100 per golfer. Lunch will follow at the Pitcairn Park Building around 1:30 p.m.

Gateway Class of ’75 reunion set
A 50-year reunion is planned for Gateway Senior High School’s class of 1975. It will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 6 at Riverside Event Center, Oakmont.
A buffet dinner is scheduled for 7 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by classmate DJ Mark Magyar. Dress is casual.
Cost is $75 per person. Tickets should be purchased in advance, and checks can be mailed to Patty Venturella, 307 Jaclyn Court, Delmont, PA 15626.
