Blue light bulb sales support Monroeville police

Monroeville officials are selling blue light bulbs and proceeds will benefit the Monroeville Police Benevolent Fund.

The Blue Light Project will offer the bulbs for $10 at the Monroeville Parks and Recreation Department at 2700 Monroeville Boulevard. Community members can also purchase and install their own blue 9-watt LED bulb to show support for the police.

Kindergarten registration open

Gateway School District officials announced that kindergarten registration for the 2024-25 school year is open.

Parents can go to Gatewayk12.org/resources/parent-resources/registration to complete an online enrollment form. Kindergarten screenings will take place in May.

Mass for health care professionals

Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish will host a Feb. 11 “White Mass” named for the white coats worn by health care professionals.

It will be at 2 p.m. at Saint Bernadette Church, 245 Azalea Drive in Monroeville, with celebrant Bishop Mark Eckman. A reception will follow in Biedenbach Hall.

Plum Area Ladies Society events

• Monthly meeting, 6:30 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Plum Community Center, 499 Center New Texas Road. Featured speaker will be Jeremiah’s Place, which provides child care for low-income families. Service project will be to donate money, laundry supplies, dryer sheets and cleaning supplies for the center. A second service project will be hosting a valentine ice cream social and distributing homemade cards for Concordia Ridgewood residents on Feb. 10.

• Ladies Day Out, Feb. 12 with a trip to Zen’s Chinese Restaurant to celebrate the Chinese New Year. Sign-up will take place at the Feb. 7 meeting.

• Annual society banquet, 2-5 p.m. May 4 at Pugliano’s on Golden Mile Highway. The theme is “Kentucky Derby” and the cost is $30.

The club meets regularly at the community center at 6:30 p.m. on the first Wednesday of the month, September through April. For more, call 724-327-8265.

• Feb. 8: Concert by flutist Gemma Stemley, playing calypso, Caribbean and Mardi Gras-themed music at 7 p.m. Free to attend.

• Feb. 9: Native American activist Miguel Sague will explore the indigenous history of the region at 1 p.m., RSVP required.

• Feb. 13: Cybersecurity presentation by students from Forbes Road Career & Technology Center’s computer networking and security program at 7 p.m. The session will focus on phishing and how scammers obtain private information. RSVP required.

• Game night with spaces set up to play a wide variety of card games, table-top games and party games. Bring your own or use those provided by the library, 6-8 p.m.

• Tom Roberts & the Hot Club of Pittsburgh, an online presentation with host Tom Roberts presenting records from his 78-rpm collection, focusing on some of the oldest popular recordings of early Black musicians, 7 p.m.
