Outdoor concert series

McCandless Crossing will host its annual outdoor summer concert series and introduces a new jazz offering on the second Sunday afternoon of each month throughout the summer.

The weekly series runs through Sept. 30 and features local and regional performers in a variety of musical genres. Concerts take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Thursday under the large white canopy tent on the Town Green, between Old Navy and Ethan Allen.

North Hills Community Outreach will hold a food donation drive at concerts on June 13, July 11, Aug. 15 and Sept. 12. Northland Public Library volunteers will host children’s activities at concerts on June 20, July 18, Aug. 29 and Sept. 16.

New for 2024, McCandless Crossing will host a monthly musical series, Jazz on the Green. Some of the region’s best jazz performers will perform from 1 to 3 p.m. each second Sunday through September.

Concert attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets for seating. In case of extreme weather conditions, concerts may be canceled or rescheduled.

Kids’ Safety Event set

The Block Northway, 8013 McKnight Road, will hold its sixth annual Kids’ Safety Event from 3 to 6 p.m. June 20 in the mall’s south corridor, located between DSW and Lands’ End.

Featured will be fire trucks, EMS and police vehicles, safety equipment and information provided by a variety of organizations. Enjoy face painting, balloon art, Paint Monkey activities and the Kiddie Kaboose Train Ride. A peach truck will be located in the upper parking lot near ALDI.

Donations of cold or hot cereal items will be collected to help support the North Hills Cares Food Bank. For every box of donated cereal or $5 donation, you can choose a coupon worth $5 or more from a local restaurant as a thank you.

The Block Northway will also feature a weekly farmers’ market, produced in partnership with I Made It Market. There will be a diverse collection of local vendors offering fresh, locally grown produce, fine spirits, flowers and handmade gifts, plus food trucks.

Inspired Women pay it forward

An Inspired Women Paying It Forward garden party is scheduled for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. July 11 at the Krischke residence, 251 Westvue Road, Wexford.

The quarterly meeting of the philanthropic networking group Inspired Women Pittsburgh North Chapter will include acceptance of nominations for nonprofits to benefit women and girls.

Marshall Community Day

Marshall Township Community Day is scheduled for Aug. 24 at Knob Hill Park. The event will start at 4 p.m. and wrap up with Zambelli Fireworks around 9:30.

Franklin Park festival

Franklin Park’s Festival in the Park is scheduled for June 29 on the lower fields at Blueberry Hill Park, off Blaine’s Way.

The festival kicks off at 4 p.m. and features inflatable attractions, food trucks, activities, entertainment, a petting zoo, ax throwing, and live music. The night caps off with a fireworks display around 9:30.
