We’re all ready to put winter in the rear view, and there’s some hope now that March is here. But there’s still a chill in the air, so here are some fun things to do on (hopefully) one of the last winter weekends for a while.
Jurassic Quest
For the kids and adults who love dinosaurs, Jurassic Quest is back and bigger than ever. Come face to face with a variety of animatronic dinosaurs, including — of course — a T-Rex. There are also dinosaur-themed rides, fossil and science experiences (both fun and educational), inflatables and a soft play area for the little ones.
Jurassic Quest will roar into Downtown on Friday and stomp around through Sunday at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center. Timed tickets for both kids and adults are available at jurassicquest.com.
Mardi Gras fundraiser at Rivers Casino
Lent is coming up, and with it, some Mardi Gras festivities this weekend. This fundraiser for Pittsburgh Bereavement Doulas benefits support for those suffering from pregnancy and infant loss. So party for a good cause at Rivers Casino on the Nort Shore on Saturday night.
Tickets include appetizers and a New Orleans-style buffet dinner, an interactive dessert station, two drinks tickets, live music, a photo booth and more. There will also be other live entertainment, including tarot card readings.
The VIP cocktail hour starts at 6 p.m., with the main event running from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday. To learn more, check out the Facebook event page.
‘Love Is…’ at Alumni Theater Company
Take a look at love from all sides at this powerful performance from Alumni Theater Company. The show is comprised of three short plays from playwrights who explore the complexities, joys and sorrows of love.
All three plays are written by local Black playwrights, Monteze Freeland, a.k Payne and Michael Curr. The cast is comprised of ATC’s Teen and Professional Ensembles. The show is appropriate for individuals aged 14 and older.
Shows will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m., as well as Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Bill Nunn Black Box, at the border of Homewood and Larimer. To learn more, visit alumnitheatercompany.org.
Grist House Brunch at the Ski Lodge
This day-to-night party at Grist House in Millvale is for those who aren’t willing to let winter — and its sports — go just yet. Come all day in your ski-themed “costumes,” enjoy food trucks with brunch specials (including a “Brekky Crunchwrap” and a Cinnamon Toast Crunch brownie) and enjoy limited time beer releases, mimosa buckets and other special drinks.
There will also be fire pits, photo ops, a DJ playing some great music and more. The fun runs from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday. To learn more, visit gristhouse.com.
Pixar in Concert
Watch selections from your favorite Pixar films up on the big screen while the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra provides the score. The PSO is excited to present portions of the music from “Toy Story,” “Coco,” “Ratatouille,” “Cars” and more. Perfect for bringing the generations together, this performance will inspire and warm hearts of all ages.
Performances will be held at Heinz Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and at 2:30 p.m. Sunday. To get tickets, visit pittsburghsymphony.org.
