House tour slated in Norwin

Seven houses in Irwin and North Huntingdon will be featured on the Norwin Historical Society’s Homes for the Holidays Tour from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Dec. 2.

Tickets can be purchased for $25 by credit card at www.norwinhistoricalsociety.org, at the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, the Norwin Chamber of Commerce, 321 Main St. The V.I.P. Transport Tour, which includes transportation from Calvary Baptist Church on Caruthers Lane, is available for $45. Those taking the tour bus must be at the church by 3:15 p.m. for the group tour.

A basket raffle will be held at the Greenhouse Winery, 2155 Gracin Lane, Rillton, on the night of the tour. Five dollar tickets to win the several baskets available can be purchased online at the norwinhistoricalsociety.org and during events held in Irwin. Winners will be drawn following the tour.

Tickets for the baskets also will be sold to those not joining in the tour.

Ticket holders driving the tour are required to go to the Norwin Public Library between 3 and 4:45 p.m. Dec. 2 to present their ticket to receive a wristband and tour booklet. Those who purchased a ticket through the website will be registered automatically and no ticket is issued.

Norwin library group to hold fundraiser

The Friends of the Norwin Public Library will hold its holiday book basket sale, featuring specially-themed baskets, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, at the library at 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

West Newton plans holiday celebration

West Newton is planning a holiday celebration complete with a parade in the downtown business district, a vendors’ and makers’ market, on Saturday .

The Christmas in My Hometown features a parade at 5:30 p.m., with Santa Claus to follow the parade. The lighting of the Christmas tree on S. Second Street will occur at 6:30 p.m., after the parade.

A vendors and makers market will be held from 3 to 8:30 p.m. at the West Newton United Presbyterian Church at South Fourth and East Main streets and the West Newton Center for Active Adults at 103 E. Main St. A Mega Gift Basket Raffle and lottery tree raffle will be at the Le Grand Room, South Second Street.

There will be food booths and Bloom and Brew Tasting pop up site. Mrs. Claus will hold a children’s story at 4 p.m. on South Second Street.

The annual Christmas Light Up Night concert hosted by Jim Sykes of the West Newton United Presbyterian Church, will be at East Main and Third Street.

Irwin OKs free holiday season parking

Irwin Borough council has approved free holiday season parking for motorists parking at metered spots through Jan. 2

Council approved the free parking at its Nov. 8 meeting, at which it set a two-hour limit on free parking on Main Street. Illegally-parked vehicles still will be ticketed.

Little Lake Theatre bus trip set

A bus trip for senior citizens is planned to see a Christmas show at the Little Lake Theatre in Peters Township on Dec. 9.

The show “Winter Wonderful” will be performed. A dinner is planned for Abruzzi’s restaurant in Irwin. There will be a stop at Sarris Candies in Canonsburg.

The price is $159 per person. The bus will leave from Norwin Hills Shopping Center, Route 30, North Huntingdon, and return there.
