North Huntingdon Township Municipal Authority’s 12,560 customers will not see an increase in their sewage rates for the fiscal year that began May 1, but customers will see an increase in the tap-in fees starting July 1.

The municipal authority, which has its plant along Turner Valley Road, will increase the tap-in fees from $5,150 to $5,375 under the recently approved $10.4 million operating budget. Commercial customers will pay $5,375 for the first equivalent dwelling unit tap-in.

The tap-in fee is based on guidelines and requirements established in the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Act, which allows the water and sewage authorities to recover certain costs for capital projects, retire debt and finance new capital projects, said Michael Branthoover, authority executive director. The authority’s consulting engineer reviews the tap-in fee annually.

Sewage rates will remain at $53.80 per month and $161.40 per quarter.

The operating budget includes a $2.4 million payment to the Western Westmoreland Municipal Authority on Route 993 for treatment of sewage from North Huntingdon customers.

The $11 million capital improvement plan budget through 2028 includes spending for the fifth phase of the sewer line replacement in the Markvue Manor neighborhood and planning for the sixth phase of work there.
