Norwin library to host authors in book fair

A local author book fair will be heldfrom 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 27 at Norwin Public Library at 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

These authors are scheduled for the event: Lisa Brozek, Laureen Cauley, Jill Cullen, Victoria Crall, Cathy Greco, Patti Kemerer, J.B. Pierce, Linda Rossi, Moira Richardson, Katelyn Rushe, Damaris Shaw, Jennifer Silbaugh, Barbara D’Souza and Laurie Sweeney.

All proceeds from the sales go to the authors.

North Huntingdon police to hold drug take back

Norwin residents with unused and outdated medications can drop those off at the lobby of the North Huntingdon police station at 11279 Center Highway, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27.

Those dropping off medications should place them in a small bag. The collection site will not accept, syringes, needles, liquids or Epi-Pens.

The North Huntingdon site serves as a collection point for the DEA for other police department drug take back programs, including Penn Township, Monroeville and Plum, Harris said.

Norwin recognized for music education

Norwin’s efforts to promote music education through the efforts of teachers, administrators, parents, students and community leaders have been named recognized for a sixth consecutive year.

The National Association of Music Merchants Foundation has named Norwin one of the Best Communities for Music Education. The award is given to school districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in its efforts to provide access to music and education to all students.

“This award ensures that the Norwin School District is known both regionally and nationally as a school district that values music as an essential aspect of every child’s education,” said Brandon Kandrack, music department curriculum leader.

Garden club to sell plants

The Irwin Garden Club will hold its annual plant sale from 9 a.m. to noon May 18 at the Norwin Public Library, 100 Caruthers Lane, Irwin.

The club will sell perennials and gently used garden items. All sales are cash only.

The sale will be held, regardless of inclement weather.

Trail ride planned

Friends of the Norwin Trails will hold a casual bike ride on the Great Allegheny Passage along the Youghiogheny River on April 27 at the parking lot on the Elizabeth Township side of the Sutersville Bridge.

Riders are asked to be at the parking lot at 9:30 a.m. for the ride, which is to begin at 10 a.m.
