Brisket was served by bookshelves and wine was sipped near hundreds of writings as residents from Oakmont and surrounding communities gathered in support of their local library.
Oakmont Carnegie Library officials said at least 172 people participated in its annual Taste of Two Towns fundraiser at 700 Allegheny River Blvd. on May 7.
More than $17,000 was raised with ticket sales, basket raffles and silent auctions.
Various restaurants and breweries from Oakmont and Verona offered samples of their finest foods and drinks.
Local dignitaries such as Verona Mayor David Ricupero and state Rep. Joe McAndrew, D-Allegheny, as well as former council members from both communities were among the attendees.
“It shows that this is not only a social event, but that the library is integral to the community,” library director Beth Mellor said.
Taste of Two Towns was presented by the library board and an event committee led by Ann Galm and Heather Pletcher.
Event sponsors included Chelsea Building Products, Longwood at Oakmont, Dinnin & Parkins, Jendoco Construction, Lori Hummel, Marino Construction, Oakmont Dental and Springer Insurance.
Businesses that served cuisine and libations included Acclamation Brewing, Boulevard Sweet Shoppe, Brr-Kee’s Ice Cream, Fox’s Pizza, The Juicery of Oakmont, Leone’s Pizza, Mighty Oak Barrel, Natrona Bottling Co., Oakmont Bakery, Oakmont Country Club, Oakmont Deli, Oakmont Olive Oil Co., Off the Rails Barbeque and Drafthouse, Pittsburgh Taco Boyzm Today’s Organic Market, Veltre’s Wedding and Event Center, Veltre’s Pizza and Zen Restaurant and Sushi Bar.
