Victorian May Day celebration on tap
The Kerr Memorial Museum will host a Victorian May Day celebration from 1 to 4 p.m. May 18 to teach people about traditions of the Victorian Era.
Participants can make a floral crown, tour the Victorian garden and watch junior docents perform a Maypole Dance, among other activities.
There will be self-guided tours only, as no formal tours will be available. Character reenactments will be done throughout the day.
Tea, coffee and sweets will be available for purchase from The Tilted Iris Tea Truck.
AARP luncheon meeting planned
Plum AARP will hold its May meeting on May 13 as a luncheon at Jaden’s II.
Doors will open at 11:30 a.m., and only members who have already purchased tickets will be admitted.
Sean Moran will entertain the group with his covers of the Vogues, the Four Seasons and the Bee Gees. There will be no meeting in June. July 8 will be the next meeting.
Plum AARP is open to residents of Plum, Penn Hills, Monroeville and surrounding communities. There is either entertainment or a speaker at almost every meeting, as well as free cake and coffee.

Plum to hold “Touch a Truck” event
Plum Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual “Touch a Truck” event on May 10.
The event will take place at the Plum Middle School campus and feature more than a dozen pieces of equipment including firetrucks, ambulances, tow trucks, farm vehicles and more.
The event will allow children the chance to climb in the vehicles and interact with the drivers.
The event also will feature face painting, food trucks, inflatables and the Plum Mustang mascot, she said.
“Touch a Truck” will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and cost $5 for admission.
Annual Oakmont plant sale slated
The Oakmont Garden Club is hosting its annual Spring Plant Sale.
The group will be set up in the Hoffstot’s parking lot on Allegheny Avenue in Oakmont from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on May 10.
The sale will include flats of flowers and vegetables and hanging baskets, annuals, arranged bowls of lettuce and herbs, perennials grown by group members and pots of flowers arranged and created by club members.
For the third year, students from Riverview Junior-Senior High School’s Inclusive Leaders Program will sell plants they’ve grown in the school’s greenhouse. The students and their teacher are growing the lettuce and herbs for the garden club’s lettuce and herb bowls, as well.
Plum Community Center seeking volunteers
The Plum Community Center is looking for people to donate their time as lunch servers in the center kitchen.
Hot lunches are served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. weekdays. Volunteers report at 10:30 a.m. to portion the side dishes and then serve lunch until 12:15 p.m.

Group offers support for weight loss
All are welcome to join the men and women at Oakmont TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) who are learning how to lose weight.
With in-person meetings, rewards, support and encouragement, we gain knowledge of healthy eating and exercise.
You may visit with no obligation Tuesdays at 5:45 p.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1261 Pennsylvania Ave. in Oakmont. Weigh-in is private followed by a brief business meeting, sharing time, and educational program all ending by 7:15.

Food pantry offers help
The Plum Food Pantry, 81 Sandune Drive, distributes free food from 4:30 to 6 p.m. the first three Tuesdays of each month for Plum residents. Residents in need must stop in at the pantry to be certified/verified.
