A boil water advisory has been lifted for Plum’s Regency Park neighborhood.
The Plum Borough Municipal Authority notified residents of about 700 homes in the area on Monday that E. coli bacteria was found in their water supply on Saturday.
No other areas of Plum were affected.
The presence of E. coli bacteria indicates the water may be contaminated with human or animal waste. Residents were told to not drink the water without boiling it first.
In a letter distributed to Regency Park residents Tuesday, the authority said “the problem has been corrected and that it is no longer necessary to boil water before drinking.”
The letter contained no details on what the problem was or how it was corrected.
Authority Manager Howard Theis could not immediately be reached for comment Tuesday.
On Monday, Theis said the positive contamination result may have been isolated to a sample station in the 500 block of Millers Lane, where the water sample was taken.
The sample station will no longer be used, and the authority will find a house or business from which to take regular samples for testing, Theis said.
The state Department of Environmental Protection has told the authority to complete an assessment of its entire system to determine how the contamination happened and if any corrective actions are needed. The authority has 30 days from Saturday to complete it, an agency spokesperson said Tuesday.
Residents with questions can contact the municipal authority at 412-793-7331.
