Plum Distinguished Alumni

The new class of Plum Distinguished Alumni has been announced.

Inductees are Amy Davis McShane (1989), Mark Gorman (1978), Crystal Hall (1999), Josh Verbanets (2001) and posthumously, Joseph Grubich (1980).

The Plum High School graduates will be honored for their exemplary accomplishments at a banquet at the Oakmont Country Club Sept. 28.

Hors d’oeuvres and cash bar starts at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30. RSVP by Sept. 15.

State Sen. James Brewster, D-McKeesport, is expected to give the alumni a proclamation at the event.

The induction ceremony and wall unveiling is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 29 at the high school, 900 Elicker Road.

Elks soccer shoot

Oakmont Elks will hold their annual Soccer Shoot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 23 at Larry Mills Park in Plum.

The shooting skills contest is open to all youth 15 and younger. There are five age categories for both boys and girls: U-16, U-14, U-12, U-10 and U-8.

The shooter’s age as of Jan. 1, 2023, will determine which group in which to participate. A parent or guardian should accompany the shooter to help with registration.

The first-, second- and third-place winners in each category will be announced at 1 o’clock.

Fall craft festival

Plum Creek Lodge 799 Masonic Hall will host a fall craft festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 7 at 9521 Saltsburg Road, Plum. For spaces, contact Wayne at 412-916-5835 or mrdarts@verizon.net.

Plum hydrant flushing

The Plum Borough Municipal Authority will be flushing fire hydrants from Sept. 18 to Oct. 27.

Flushing is required to check the operation of all fire hydrants and to clean the distribution lines, according to the authority. No work will be done on weekends.

Because flushing may cause discolored water, residents are advised to test their water before doing laundry or drawing large amounts during the flushing.

Any discoloration should clear in one to two hours. If it does not, call the authority at 412-793-7331 for help.

20th-anniversary celebration

Concordia at Ridgewood Place will host a celebration in honor of the location’s 20th anniversary with Concordia Lutheran Ministries from 3 to 6 p.m. Sept. 20 at 1460 Renton Road, Plum

Featured are a car cruise, live music from the Highlife Band, complimentary refreshments and open house, with tours available throughout the event. Food trucks will be on site.

Benefit golf scramble

Plum Competitive Cheer is holding a “Scramble Fore Cheer” golf outing fundraiser on Sept. 23 at Rolling Fields Golf Course, 4138 Hankey Church Road, Murrysville.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and the scramble at 1 p.m. Proceeds help the cheer team raise money toward the national competition in Florida. Sign up at form.jotform.com/231984922628164.

Cash Bash scheduled

Plum Competitive Cheer’s Cash Bash is scheduled for 5 p.m. Oct. 7 at Universal Banquet Hall, 2240 Main St., Penn Hills.
