The beat goes on for the Sewickley Academy boys basketball team.

The Panthers ended January with Section 2-2A wins against Leechburg, Eden Christian, Brentwood and Winchester Thurston and were scheduled to wrap up the month Jan. 31 at home against Propel Braddock Hills.

“I’m just really pleased with how our younger guys and older guys have come together and sacrificed for the good of the team,” Sewickley coach Mike Iuzzolino said. “Our coaching staff preaches every day, ‘The team, the team, the team. It’s all about the team.’ I believe our guys are embracing this concept, and it is helping with some of the success we have had.”

The leading scorers in the Panthers’ most recent wins were junior forward Lucas Grimsley (16 against Leechburg), Grimsley (21 against Eden Christian), freshman F/C Mamadou Kane (14 against Brentwood) and senior forward Nolan Donnelly (19 against Winchester Thurston).

Sewickley also defeated Sto-Rox, 70-28, in a Sunday matinee Jan. 26 in the PBC Classic at Rize Sports Complex in Leetsdale.

Rob Southall, a freshman forward, and sophomore F/C Adam Ikamba led the Panthers offensively with 16 and 13 points, respectively.

“Right now, I really like that we are getting contributions from different players on different nights,” Iuzzolino said. “We are playing 10 guys, and each one of them has had his moment and made an impact in winning.”

A victory against Propel Braddock Hills would make it six in a row for the Panthers, along with 15 wins in 16 games, a 10-0 section record and a 15-2 overall mark.

“Our expectations have not changed,” Iuzzolino said. “We just keep our focus small, one game at a time. If you do that and focus on doing things the right way, positive results will happen.”
