Road repairs needed

Sewickley Heights officials are seeking a nearly $463,000 grant from the Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County to fund Borough Park Road improvements. Council authorized a grant application Aug. 19.

The project involves resurfacing and drainage upgrades to the half-mile road that leads to the park off of Fern Hollow Road. Borough manager Nathan Briggs said there are sedimentation issues with the deteriorating road. Stone and gravel are washing into the streams.

There are no matching funds required for the grant. The project would go out for bid once the money is secured. It is unclear with the county would respond to the request.

Sewer line project

Sewickley Heights officials want to install a 6-inch sewer line that will serve 12 homes along Quarry Road and a portion of Blackburn Road.

Council on Aug. 19 approved a grant application for about $527,900 in Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County funds for the project. Borough manager Nathan Briggs said there are currently no lines to those homes. They all use on-lot septic tanks.

Briggs said the line is not an emergency project, but to mitigate future issues in the area. There are no matching funds required for the grant. The project would go out for bid once the money is secured. It is unclear with the county would respond to the request.
