Spooky season is here! Enjoy the sounds, sights and scents of fall, if that’s your thing — or avoid it altogether if it isn’t — with events and activities around the area this weekend. Here are some suggestions.
Prime Stage Theatre Cemetery Walk
For the second year, Prime Stage Theatre is offering tours of the Homewood Cemetery with a twist. On Saturday, with available time slots every 40 minutes from 12:40 to 3:20 p.m., attendees can be spooked and intrigued by this perfectly seasonal event.
A parade of local actors in period dress will portray notable people interred at the Homewood Cemetery and explain their stories. With seven different legends from last year, Saturday’s walk will be a creative and unique look at Pittsburgh’s history.
Tickets are $20 and must be purchased ahead of time online. Visit primestage.com to pick your time slot.
Maser Galleries 50th Anniversary
The flagship location of Maser Galleries in Shadyside will hold a celebration to mark its 50th anniversary. A staple of the region, the art gallery looks back on five decades of serving Pittsburgh.
The celebration from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday will include light refreshments, discounts on art sales and an appearance by the gallery’s founders, Ron “Lefty” and Brenda Maser, as well as Gisele Fetterman, wife of U.S. Senator John Fetterman.
There will also be other special guests, music and plenty of looking back over the half-century of memories at Maser Galleries. No RSVP is required, but you can learn more at masergalleries.com.
Pittsburgh Dragon Boat Festival
Head to North Park Lake this Saturday to witness dragon boat racing — and enjoy a fun day for the community. This exciting sport is a blast for both newcomers and seasoned pros.
From 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., a variety of community and professional teams will jump into their boats and paddle as hard as they can to win their races. Local vendors will also be at the festival to provide food and other items.
Registration for teams to race is now closed, but being a spectator is free. Get the scoop at pghdragonboatfestival.org.
Crafton Fall Fest
The third annual Crafton Fall Fest will bring autumnal vibes to Crafton Park on Saturday. Food and beer vendors will be available, as well as live entertainment. But there’s also a wide range of activities, from axe throwing and an inflatable obstacle course to crafts for kids.
But there’s more! There will be a pup parade and costume contest, with prizes for Most Creative Costume, Funniest Costume and Best in Show.
Festivities will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday. To get more details, go to craftonborough.com.
Iconic PGH Block Party
Made In PGH will host the Iconic PGH Block Party this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Strip District Terminal. The party will feature tons of local vendors, entertainment and Pittsburgh pride.
Live music will rock the 17th Street Passageway and the folks from YaJagoff! will hold “Yinzer Olympics” with events including a Pittsburgh Jell-O salad eating contest and Fort Pitt Bridge Twister.
In addition, there will be a tailgate zone, a kids’ zone and a scavenger hunt that will take you all over the block party — and enter you to win prizes when it’s completed. For all the times and locations, visit madeinpgh.com.
