The new Aldi store in Hempfield Plaza is expected to open in September.

The store is taking over a former Staples location at 6207 Route 30 in Hempfield. The office supply retailer closed March 10.

“We are excited to provide local shoppers a revamped and refreshed Aldi store designed to make grocery shopping smarter, faster and easier,” said JR Perry, Aldi divisional vice president, via email. “We are always looking out for the needs of our shoppers, so our (Hempfield) store will allow more room for added fresh, high-quality products at affordable prices, which our loyal shoppers know and love.”

Perry confirmed in February that a new Aldi location would open in the Greensburg-Hempfield area. The Hempfield Plaza location was selected for its ability to support high traffic volume, Perry said.

Additional details about the store’s grand opening have yet to be shared, Perry said.

Aldi has other locations in the area including another store in Hempfield, near Greensburg; and in Rostraver, Unity, Mt. Pleasant and North Huntingdon townships.
