The biscuits are back.
A Southern-themed comfort food bar and restaurant in Station Square has reopened after addressing pest management concerns discovered last year by the Allegheny Health Department.
Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar first opened in January 2022. In October, the restaurant closed after receiving several pest citations.
The eatery reopened with barely a blip on social media a few weeks ago and is open for business, confirmed Thursday by an unnamed employee.
That same employee said Tupelo Honey reopened a “few weeks ago.”
The Station Square location is the sole Tupelo in Western Pennsylvania. The national chain is headquartered in Asheville, N.C.
The Pittsburgh location is housed in a former Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad freight holding building, near the Grand Concourse in Station Square.
The eatery was reinspected on Jan. 14 by an Allegheny County health inspector.
That inspection resulted in a favorable green placard report for the made-from-scratch restaurant serving Southern faves such as biscuits, fried chicken, fried green tomatoes, collards, mac and cheese and shrimp and grits.
Online details from the most recent Allegheny County inspection on Jan. 14 noted the facility has installed new brick and drywall to close off any openings to the retail space and no rodent activity was reported on the many glue boards and snap traps found throughout the kitchen and dining room.
The report further stated Tupelo Honey has made great progress in abating conditions that allow for the entry of rodents.
“We were temporarily closed to give our full and immediate attention to structural problems in the historic Station Square building where our restaurant is located,” said Caroline Skinner, chief operating officer of Tupelo Honey Hospitality. “We worked extensively with the Station Square management team and third-party contractors to remedy the issues as quickly as possible, and we’re proud that the renovated space has received a Diamond Exceptional Rating from the Pittsburgh Health Department.”
