Late on Sunday night, surveillance cameras in Wilkinsburg captured seven or eight people jumping out of a dark Mazda CX9 that had turned onto Holmes Street.

It was about 10 p.m. when the group walked toward Hill Avenue, some reportedly armed with baseball bats.

Minutes later, a fight broke out, shots were fired, and the group ran back to the SUV, driving away from what had just become a homicide scene.

Police said a bullet struck Kevin Wilson, a 16-year-old who police said had been standing outside on Hill Avenue and wasn’t involved in the melee.

A witness told Allegheny County Police that Kevin was shot in the chest and that people performed CPR on him. First responders took the teenager to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead soon after.

Three days later, on Wednesday afternoon, police arrested Kira Jackson, 23, of Pittsburgh, in connection with the slaying. A second suspect, Alicia Johnson, 23, also of Pittsburgh, surrendered to authorities late Wednesday, according to police.

Both are charged with homicide, according to county police.

Police said Jackson drove the Mazda. Detectives accused both women of firing guns.

A witness, who was not identified and has known the women for nearly a decade, learned that the pair planned to shoot up the witness’s house around 6 p.m. that evening, according to a complaint in the case.

Several hours passed without anything happening.

But eventually Jackson and Johnson appeared alongside men armed with baseball bats, the complaint said.

Things got violent. A fight broke out between the group and the witness’s cousin, according to the complaint.

At one point, Jackson took a gun from her waist band, the witness said. Johnson also pulled out a gun.

Both began shooting in the witness’s direction, the witness told police.

At least one shot hit Kevin, police said.

Officers dispatched to the scene at 10:21 p.m. found at least 15 spent bullet casings from multiple firearms.

Borough-owned cameras and license plate readers traced the Pennsylvania plates on the Mazda. Police said the car had been registered to Jackson in Pittsburgh’s West End.

Later, Jackson said that she was the only person driving the Mazda on Sunday night and admitted to being in Wilkinsburg, according to police.

County police charged both women with criminal homicide, conspiracy to commit homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and carrying a firearm without a license.

Police took Jackson to the Allegheny County Jail on Wednesday afternoon, pending an arraignment. An attorney was not listed in the court record.
