A man who described himself as a nudist showed up at the Westmoreland County Park Police station on Hempfield’s Donohoe Road last month wearing only socks, sneakers and a ball cap, according to court papers.
Turns out, police said they had been looking for a man who reportedly had been spotted naked in the county’s Twin Lakes Park at least times last August.
Police said they found Daniel S. Horrell, 61, of Greensburg, crouched in a stairwell at the police station on April 16.
Horrell told police he had disrobed that day at the Ann Rudd Saxman Nature Park on Donohoe Road, not far from Twin Lakes, and went for a walk, according to court papers. When he returned to a backpack holding his clothes, cellphone and keys, the items were missing, he told police.
Horrell admitted to previously walking nude in Twin Lakes Park, which straddles Unity and Hempfield townships, police said.
On Aug. 3, a hunter reported to police that he saw a nude man in a wooded area at the park on his trail camera. A mountain biker reported that on Aug. 20 he saw a nude man who, after realizing he had been spotted, jumped into the woods and tried to cover himself with brush between the upper and lower lakes, court papers said.
The third complaint was made Aug. 28 by a person who encountered the nude man on a horse trail at the park. The witness told police the man got dressed when he noticed he had been spotted.
Horrell is charged with indecent exposure, open lewdness and disorderly conduct in connection with the three incidents in the park and the one at the police station. The misdemeanor charges were sent by summons on Monday.
There was no response at Horrell’s residence Tuesday, and his Pittsburgh attorney did not return a phone message.
