Pittsburgh light-rail stops set to close this weekend
Multiple light-rail stations on the Blue Line will be closed over the next several weekends for maintenance, Pittsburgh Regional Transit announced Wednesday.
The closures will allow crews to apply an epoxy coating to seal the concrete to prevent water from seeping into the concrete platforms. The work was initially scheduled for last month but rescheduled because of weather.
Closures include:
- Boggs Station will be closed from 8 p.m. Friday till the start of service Monday. Riders are encouraged to use Bon Air or South Hills Junction instead.
- Denise Station will close 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6 till the start of service the next Monday. Riders can instead use Bon Air or South Bank.
- Memorial Hall Station is slated to close from 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13 till the start of service the next Monday. Riders can instead use Willow or Killarney.
- Overbrook Junction’s inbound platform will close from 7 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 till the start of service Monday, Sept. 30. A temporary low-level platform will be built for riders to board and exit rail cars. Riders who need to use a ramp should instead board Blue Line or Silver Line cars at Willow Station or board Red Line cars at Castle Shannon Station or Washington Junction.
Similar station maintenance is expected in October and November but will be weather-dependent, PRT said in a statement.
