Tree lighting set for Dec. 6

Bethel Park Recreation’s annual tree-lighting event is scheduled for Dec. 6.

Doors open at 6 p.m. for activities including a reindeer food-making station, holiday backdrop photo station (with props), hot cocoa station, Bethel Park Bakery cookie station and Letters to Santa station.

The Bethel Park High School Jazz Ensemble will play holiday music from 6:15 to 6:45, when Mayor Jack Allen will present a welcome, introductions and announcements.

Choir members from Independence Middle School’s Top 21 will perform at 6:50, and Santa Claus is scheduled to arrive at 7 to lead a sing-along.

Once Santa arrives, there will be time for him to meet all of the children and have photographs taken with them.

The event will be held at the Bethel Park Community Center, 5151 Park Ave.

Senior citizens invited to luncheon

Bethel Park Recreation Department’s annual senior citizen Christmas luncheon is scheduled for 1 p.m. Dec. 15 in the Bethel Park High School cafeteria. Please do not arrive before 12:15 p.m.

A shuttle service will be available from the parking area to the entrance of the high school. The cost is $11 per person.

Registration deadline is Dec. 8, or until the event is filled. Walk-ins are not permitted. The event is for Bethel Park residents only.

Allegheny Land Trust programs

The Bethel Park Historical Society is supporting an event series with Allegheny Land Trust to benefit Bethel Park residents. Programs are at the historical society headquarters, 2600 South Park Road, except where indicated:

• First Friday Hike, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Dec. 1 at Bethel Green Conservation Area.

• Better for Birds, 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Jan. 15

• Harvesting Rainwater 101, 6 to 7 p.m. Jan. 15

• Better for Bees, 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. Feb. 12

• Spring Ephemeral Wildflowers, 6 to 7 p.m. Feb. 12

• Owl Pellets, 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. March 11

• Common Mushrooms of the Yard and Garden, 6 to 7 p.m. March 11

‘Miracle on Main Street’

South Hills Church of the Nazarene’s Acting Up Club will present the musical “Miracle on Main Street” at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 and 10.

The church is at 5601 Library Road, Bethel Park. Admission is free, and a cookie reception will follow the performances to meet and greet the performers and staff.

Center, offices closed

In observance of Thanksgiving, the Bethel Park Community Center and municipal offices are closed from Nov. 23-26.

During the week of Nov. 26, trash collection will be delayed one day.
