Fatal crash in Monroeville

The Allegheny County coroner was called to the scene of a fatal crash Tuesday night in Monroeville.

Emergency responders were called to the intersection of Haymaker and Ramsey roads around 7 p.m., according to TribLive news partner WTAE, for a report that an SUV had struck a utility pole.

Duquesne Light crews worked into the night to fix the pole, and about 1,000 customers were without power until it was fixed, sometime after 9 p.m.

Ambulance crash sends 1 to hospital

At least one person was transported to the hospital after an ambulance crashed early Wednesday morning near the Walnut Grill on Freeport Road, according to Allegheny County emergency officials.

Freeport Road was briefly closed following the crash, which was reported around 4 a.m., an Allegheny County 911 supervisor said.

That section of the Waterworks shopping center is technically part of Pittsburgh’s Lincoln-Lemington-Belmar neighborhood, despite being across the Allegheny River on the border with O’Hara Township.

Aging plan open for comments

Members of the Pennsylvania Senate are seeking public comments following the publication of “Aging Our Way, PA: A Plan for Lifelong Independence,” a 10-year plan to support the state’s older residents.

“Every Pennsylvanian deserves to live and age with dignity,” Sen. Maria Collett, D-12, said. “This comprehensive and innovative plan from Secretary of Aging Jason Kavulich and his team will help ensure older and disabled Pennsylvanians can remain in their homes and communities, that their caregivers are supported, and that they have access to the services and resources they need to thrive.”

The plan was commissioned through an executive order by Gov. Josh Shapiro over the summer, and was developed in partnership with more than 50 regional Area Agencies on Aging as well as associated senior centers. More than 200 listening sessions took place across the state’se 67 counties. Priorities for the plan include

• Better access to services

• Aging in your own community

• Making more avenues to independence for seniors

• Caregiver support

• Education and help navigating the available services

Pennsylvania residents can share feedback on the draft plan by filling out a form available online, or by mailing comments to Aging Our Way PA, 555 Walnut St., Fifth Floor, Harrisburg, PA, 17101, or emailing agingplan@pa.gov.
