There was baseball played Sunday afternoon in Latrobe. While MLB's owners and players squabble over money, some area teams are taking the field. The Latrobe JetHawks played an exhibition doubleheader at Legion-Keener Field against Hollidaysburg. The squads split, with Hollidaysburg winning Game 1, 9-8, and Latrobe bouncing back with a 6-0 win. Approximately 100 fans spread out around the field in Latrobe, practicing social distancing, were out to enjoy the day and watch kids play one of the main sports of the summer. "It was just nice to see the kids play," Latrobe coach Jason Bush said. "We were a little sloppy in the first game, but we played a lot better in the second. Another good thing was every kid got to play." A few hundred yards away, the Latrobe Little League had players on the field getting ready for their season. Fans for both teams were spread out along the baseline cheering on the players. "It's 75 and sunny, a perfect day for baseball," said Latrobe resident Dave Petrosky watching his son, Clay, play for the JetHawks. "On a normal Sunday, I'd be here probably listening to the Pirates while I'm watching this. The kids were ready to go, and it's something other than sitting around the house." Petrosky joked that he got to his spot early to put up his tent so he could sit in the shade. Sharing the same tent was Scott Grandgeorge, whose son, Ethan, was playing. "I think it's great that they're playing," Grandgeorge said. "The kids have been trying to figure out what they're going to do with their time, and they finally get a chance to play some ball with their friends. "A lot of them are seniors. They missed their senior year, and this is a chance for them to get out and do it." Bush was a happy man as he watched his team play and try to work out the kinks from missing the spring season. Even though it was just an exhibition game, there still was intensity in his voice. "I'm just happy we went green, and now we can play games," Bush said. "We're excited to see home the season goes."
