West Deer residents hoping to get involved with local government have their chance.
Supervisors Vernon Frey resigned from District 1, creating a vacancy to be filled this month.
Frey remains in the township but is building a home in another district. His resignation was effective Tuesday.
Frey could not be reached for comment.
A supervisor for seven years, he is a Republican who most recently was elected in November 2023 to a four-year term. He ran unopposed.
Residents in District 1 who are interested in applying for the position should submit a letter by noon Nov. 15.
Township Manager Dan Mator said the vacancy is required to be filled by Nov. 20.
The term runs through December 2025 when the appointee will have to run for the remaining two years of the seat.
Supervisor Josh Wiegand said applicants will be interviewed by the board immediately before the Nov. 20 meeting, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Supervisors are expected to vote on a replacement during the meeting, which starts at 7 p.m.
People already are expressing interest in the position, Wiegand said.
District 1 covers the northern and central portions of the township.
Mator said anyone interested in applying should contact him to confirm they live in the district.
Frey has expressed interest in returning to the board in the future, Mator said.
“He enjoyed being a township supervisor and being of service to the residents of the community,” Mator said.
