Pine-Richland High School will present its fall play, “The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon,” Nov. 22-23 at the high school.

Written by Don Zolidis, “The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon” packs in the filming of six holiday channel Christmas rom coms at once, following half a dozen couples, each representing a holiday romantic comedy cliché, who meet and fall in love just in time for Dec. 25.

“The Holiday Channel Christmas Movie Wonderthon” is directed by Kathy Morrissey and stars Jill Uzelac, Brendan Plowey, Anna Karmanos, Conor Barcaskey, Loren Prisuta, AJ Horrocks, Raegan Dosch, Jake Pazin, Aubrey Myers, Colby Fuchs, Julia Jakovac, John Folino and Bella Fritz.

A free preview for senior citizens will be held at 4 p.m. Nov. 21.

The show will be performed for the public at 7 p.m. Nov. 22, and 2 and 7 p.m. Nov. 23.

District honors band

Four Pine-Richland High School students successfully auditioned for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District 1 Honors Band: senior Thomas DeVito, trumpet; juniors Ashlyn Casale, flute, and Ryan Noir, clarinet; and sophomore Alex Goss, trumpet.

Educator Award received

The Western Pennsylvania chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention has named Pine-Richland High School as its 2023-24 Educator Award recipient.

Each year, the foundation chooses an organization that shows excellence in suicide prevention awareness and education programs.

Pine-Richland’s Peer2Peer group raises money to donate to the foundation and help break the stigma about mental health. Peer2Peer members strive to break down social barriers by eliminating social injustices and promoting respect for all in both the school and community.

Rotary outstanding students

Pine-Richland High School seniors Sara Irwin and Claire Dosch were recognized by the Rich Mar Rotary Club on Nov. 6 for their outstanding service and accomplishments.

Both Sara and Claire are members of the National Honor Society, girls lacrosse team and many other Pine-Richland activities.

Beattie students of month

Five Pine-Richland High School students have been named students of the month in their programs at A.W. Beattie Career Center for September/October: junior Simon Lucas, advertising design; sophomore Allison Andresky, automotive collision technology; sophomore Jacob Hickenboth, emergency response technology; senior Amina Burd, health and nursing sciences; and senior Kaelyn Gingrich, pastry arts.

Letters from Santa

Pine-Richland High School choral students are offering letters from Santa to children of all ages.

For a $7 donation, choral students will personalize and mail a letter from Santa to your child, including details provided by you.

Commended students

Eleven Pine-Richland High School seniors earned Commended status from the National Merit Scholarship Program: Colin Barrett, Vincent Bucek, Allen Chen, Katelyn Coyne, Prisha Dargan, Ian Hurt, Anna Karmanos, Bradan Lenz, Elena Morse, Edgar Spudic and William Tamburri.

The students represent the top 34,000 scores of the 1.3 million who took the PSAT last year. They may be candidates for special scholarships offered by National Merit Scholarship Corp. sponsors.

AP Gold Honor Roll

Pine-Richland High School earned AP Gold Honor Roll recognition for the 2023-24 school year. Only 7% of eligible schools nationwide and only two other schools in Western Pennsylvania earned the designation.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn the recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit and maximizing college readiness.
