The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Philip Tomasino from the Nashville Predators on Monday. In return, they exchanged a fourth-round pick in the 2027 draft.

Tomasino, 23, was a first-round draft pick (No. 24 overall) in 2019. A right-handed shot, he has appeared in 11 games this season and has recorded one assist while averaging 11:18 of average ice time per contest, including 1:12 in power-play scenarios.

He has been scratched for 10 of a possible 21 games this season.

Throughout his career, Tomasino has appeared in 159 games and scored 71 points (23 goals, 48 assists) while clocking an average of 12:35 of ice time per contest.

While listed as a center, Tomasino (6-foot, 179 pounds) primarily skates as a right winger. He is signed to a one-year contract with a salary cap hit of $825,000 and is scheduled to become a restricted free agent in the upcoming offseason.

Earlier in the afternoon, the Penguins assigned rookie forward Sam Poulin to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.

According to Puckpedia, the Penguins now have $1,109,253 of salary cap space following Monday’s transactions. They now have 47 NHL contracts for the 2023-24 season, two short of the NHL’s limit of 50.

The draft pick sent to the Predators was originally property of the New York Rangers. The Penguins acquired it on March 8 in a deal that moved defenseman Chad Ruhwedel to the Rangers.

Follow the Penguins all season long.
